About us
The Bukovina Center is an institution in Chernivtsi for regional studies, international meetings and cultural exchange. Our task is to build bridges:
- from the past to the present,
- from east to west and from west to east,
- from person to person
for a joint future in a united, democratic and pluralistic Europe .
The Bukovina Center is housed at Yuriy Fedkovich National University in the western Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi, known as Czernowitz during the time of Austrian control and later as Cernauti during Romanian rule. Since its foundation in 1992, the Bukovina Center does disciplinal research of the history and culture of the Bukovina region. The Center is here to serve all those interested in this fascinating part of Europe.
In addition to organizing international conferences, exhibitions, and symposia, the Bukovina Center publishes materials related to the region. In keeping with Bukovina’s tradition as a multiethnic European cultural region, the Bukovina Center maintains contacts with partner institutions and organisations all over Europe. In this way, the Center creates a unified European mentality.
By crossing the borders of Europe and reviving past traditions and relationships, the Bukovina Center strives to put people in contact with one another, their shared past, and their shared future. The Bukovina Centre’s special focus is on exchanges with Austria, Germany and Romania.
